A Broken Piston?
|
| |
too little octane, a little too aggressive timing, and a whole lot of detonation will blow the piston ring lands right outta any piston not wanting to take any more! this motor was built to learn on, and i did just that, learned...ALOT! originally, i wanted to go 13.7's on a regular basis, but then i went out and ran a 13.20 @ 101mph and the bug got me, i HAD to run that 12.999 pass everyone looks for so hard. well, went a 13.03 @ 103mph before i blew something. oh well....guess it's time for that 350 to go together and i think i'll see some 12.0's in my near future!

A Worn Camshaft?
|
| |
When assembling the little 305, i guess we decided it didn't need a cam button to keep the cam from walking around. Well...looks like we did need one. I killed TWO dizzy drive gears and my third is on it's way out right now and i never could figure out why. Apparently, the cam was walking back and forth in the motor and effectively destroyed the camshaft distributer drive gear. A new cam has already been selected. A Competition Cams Xtreme Energy 274H cam will be replacing it. This cam is about as radical as i'm willing to go with a street driven motor with 230*/236* duration and .487"/.490" of lift on a 110lsa. A Summit Racing cam button will also go in with the new cam to prolong the life of the cam by preventing the ever elusive "Cam Walk".

The Swap
|
| |
Ah, the swap is beginning! While the combination has changed many times, to even include buying another v6 f-body for a daily driver because the combo was getting too wild, i think i have finally managed to get a tame enough (well...that's all kinda relative...isn't it?)combination together to drive daily while i save up for the "Big Upgrades" later on down the road, to also include that v6 f-body i want to get so much. As you can see below, the bore size is increasing by over .250"!!!
Here is the low down on the new combination, cause i know ya'll are so eagerly waiting to hear what it's going to be. -4 bolt 010 350 block bored .060 over to yeild a true 360 cubic inches. -Brand NEW Eagle cast crank with a 3.48" stroke. -OHIO Crankshaft Forged 5.7" rods. -Speed Pro Power Forged flattop 4valve relief pistons -113 casting aluminum vette heads for a solid 10.3:1 c/r -Comp Cams XE274 cam: 230*/236* .487"/.490" 110lsa -Holley Street Dominator intake (idle-7200rpm) -Holley 650 double pumper -Hedman longtube headers with dual 2 1/2" exhaust and an H-pipe.
This thing aughta scream!
